Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has acknowledged Barisan Nasional (BN) for its vital role in ensuring political stability in the state. He praised the ongoing collaboration between PH and BN, which has contributed to effective governance and growth in Penang.
Speaking at the Penang MIC Deepavali open house, Chow highlighted the importance of BN’s support, especially during the 2023 state elections. He recognized the contributions of BN’s component parties, including MIC, in advancing initiatives that benefit the people of Penang.
“Political stability is essential for progress. This partnership has enabled us to focus on the social and economic well-being of our people,” Chow said.
He also commended Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership in strengthening the unity government and fostering confidence both locally and internationally.
Chow praised Musa Sheikh Fadzir, the Penang BN and Umno chief, for his efforts in building strong ties between BN and PH. He pointed to the 2023 state election results as evidence of the success of their collaboration.
The PH-BN alliance won 29 out of 40 state assembly seats, with Perikatan Nasional (PN) securing 11. DAP claimed all 19 seats it contested, while PKR and Amanah won seven and one, respectively. BN won two of the six seats it contested.
Looking ahead, Chow emphasized the need to maintain this cooperation to tackle future challenges, including the upcoming general election in three years.
Chow also expressed gratitude for being part of Penang MIC’s first Deepavali event in 15 years, where party members surprised him with a flower garland for his 65th birthday. Former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng also attended, reinforcing the commitment to unity and progress in Penang.
